Featuring Miss Social, Natalie Grinnell!

We are super excited to feature the very talented and gorgeous, Natalie Grinnell.  Natalie is the brains behind of Miss Social, founder of Studio 41 Creative,  and the go-to social media guru.   Local to San Francisco, Natalie’s lifestyle blog is inspiring, personable, and most of all, relatable, as she writes about life and love in the city.  Natalie is not only an amazing writer, she has also co-founded Digitally Chic, a fashion and technology networking group based in San Francisco, with two friends, Angelica Benjamin and Ashley Gustafson.

We had the opportunity to chat with Natalie on her personal style, travel tips, SF best local spots, and more.  Check out her interview below!

1. A lot of our readers have a passion for travel as well.  What would be your top 5 summer travel essentials – whether that’s on a boat to Alaska w/ your dad or roaming the streets of Paris?

My top 5 travel essentials would be:

  1. My iPhone: Whenever traveling, Google Maps on my iPhone is my most important tool.  Plus, I’m constantly taking pictures on Instagram of the sights.
  2. My Tory Burch flats: I love my Tory flats because they go with nearly every outfit, plus I can walk for miles in them, making them perfect for exploring either foreign cities, or my own.
  3. My notepad:  I love to write, so I always keep a notepad with me to write down anything interesting for my blog.
  4. My Marc Jacobs little black dress:  I have the perfect black dress from Marc Jacobs:  It can be casual with flats or glammed up by laying on jewelry, so it’s perfect for all occasions.  Plus, it’s wrinkle-free!
  5. My iPad:  I love my iPad because it combines so many travel essentials that would normally overflow my carryon: As many books, movies, and songs that I can think to download.  Plus, while travelling, lugging my MacBook Pro around can be tiring, so I do most of my client work on my iPad.

2. What are your best kept secrets in SF – What are your favorite shops / boutiques / consignment shops in the city? Best coffee?  Best macaron or cupcake bakery? Best happy hour?

My favorite place to meet with friends after work is Sugar Cafe on Sutter Street.  It’s a great ambiance, and they have daily drink specials.  Other happy hour favorites are Sens on the Embarcadero and Roy’s at 2nd & Mission Street.

For shopping, I absolutely love the Union Street area.  My favorite boutiques are Chloe Rose and Ambiance; I always find the coolest styles at some-what affordable prices.

3. What is your favorite quote of all time?

My favorite quote would have to be from Mark Twain: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

I also read this on the Apocalypstick blog a while back, and now I keep it in mind whenever I make big or small decisions in my life: If you’re not sure what to do in any situation, go with what would make a good story.”

4. How would you describe your style?

I really wish I had one signature style, but the truth is I’m constantly changing up my look from day to day.  One day I’ll be a rocker chic with a leather jacket and the next day I’ll be channeling Audrey Hepburn in a little black dress and pearls.

5. What was the inspiration behind founding Digitally Chic with Ashley and Angelica?

There are so many young, talented, creative professionals in our city, but at the time there were no networking groups specific to those in the fashion and technology fields.  The two industries are constantly intertwining with each other, so we wanted to create a place where the communities could come together online and in person.  Digitally Chic was born, first as a Facebook group, but soon expanded into more:  In addition to the Facebook group, we host meetups on the 3rd Thursday of every month at different venues around the city.  We also host various larger events throughout the year like our “Apps & Apps” events and shopping crawls (there’s even one coming up on June 16th).
